Park program registration starts

It's registration time for some of the Triangle-area parks programs.

If you're not familiar with the process, the region's parks programs send out big booklets every three to six months or so filled with dozens and dozens of sports, arts, aquatic, nature and educational programs. Many are dirt cheap and fill up. So it's best to check the listings for your community and get registered.

Here's what I've found so far ...

Raleigh: Mail-in registration started March 31. Walk-in and online registration starts April 14. Raleigh's Leisure Ledger (something about the word "leisure" just makes me laugh) has the most offerings of all Triangle parks systems and they really are surprisingly affordable. It's a little bit more expensive ($10 to $12) if you don't live in the city limits, but still worth a look especially if you live nearby or work in the city. Click here for details.

Wake Forest: Summer camp registration begins April 6. Swim lesson registration starts June 1. And fall baseball and softball starts June 8. Click here for a link to find the town's RecConnect brochure.

Knightdale: Registration dates are scattered for programs in this town. You can register for some programs now, others start later next month or in May. Click here for details.

Garner: Spring registration starts April 15. Click here for a few more details ... the Web site is currently being updated.

Apex: Registration started March 30 for residents. It's April 13 for non-residents. Athletic program dates might be different. Click here for details (it's a PDF).

Wake County:The spring brochure is out. Registration is required for all of the county's park programs. Click here for details (it's a PDF).
