The Passing of a Mother
Two little boys lost their mother on Thursday. They are the same age as my Bird and Deal. My heart hurts for them and for her husband and for her family and for her friends.
Shannon Dodd died on Thursday in her home. She was 33.
I did not know Shannon but I followed her story through some moms I know at preschool. They formed a sisterhood with Shannon, demonstrating the inherent goodness of people. I saw Shannon only once, and she had an aura about her that was striking even from a distance.
You can read Shannon's obituary here: http://www.legacy.com/NewsObserver/Obituaries.asp?Page=Notice&PersonID=118281909
I also wrote about her here: http://www.dirtandnoise.com/2008/10/mothers-passing.html
There are no answers, no rhyme, no reason. I am brought to my knees with this story because Shannon's life is, rather was, so much like mine. Full of boys wrestling, tugging, giggling, battling, leaping, climbing, cuddling. My heart hurts for what she will miss. For the gap her husband will miss. For the mother's grace and touch the boys will miss.
I am going to squeeze my boys a bit harder today. And everyday. Honor Shannon by doing the same.

Oh how sad. Thanks for sharing. We are praying for her family.
P.S. I totally understand being mistaken for the nanny. ;) I always think oh, I am meeting a nice mom at the park and bingo it's the nanny. ;)
Warmly,
Carolina Mama
