Passing school buses

It's been less than a week since a 6-year-old girl from Green Year-Round Elementary School was hit by a car after getting off her school bus in Raleigh.

But Ruth Sheehan in The News & Observer writes that there still are plenty of people who pass stopped school buses when they shouldn't. Read more by clicking here

It just amazes me that people are in such a hurry that they'd risk hitting a kid so they can get where they're going. Do they not know the rules? And if you don't know the rules, click here for them all.

Even though my kids are middle schoolers, I gave them the lecture yesterday before school. People are just in too much of a hurry, and they assume nothing will happen. I'm sure they don't really think they'll hit a child, but that's where the danger lies-- when you let down your guard and assume you don't have to be careful.

My heart goes out to that little one's family. It just makes me so sad.
