For the Peeps
In honor of Easter the Easter Bunny, here is a list of fun things to do with leftover Peeps (as if):
* Peep jousting. I learned about this last weekend at Peep Fest, sponsored by Market Street Books in Chapel Hill. Set two Peep ducks a few inches apart in your microwave. Insert a toothpick in each one so it looks like they are about to square off in a jousting match. Set the time to 45 seconds and watch the battle. Here is a demonstration.
* Make Peepsicles. Insert a craft stick into a bunny-shaped PEEP and then dip in melted chocolate. Coat with nuts, coconut or sprinkles. Freeze for 30 minutes. (Find the full recipe here along with other recipes from the makers of Peeps.)
* Toast them like you would toast a marshmallow. A friend says the Peep’s sugar coating gets hard and toasty like creme brulee.
* Peep Science. At Peep Fest, my kids engaged in a little Peep Science. Simply put a Peep in a plastic cup and start adding things to it like vinegar, baking soda, soft drinks, maybe some food coloring, bubbles, whatever you can come up with. I can’t explain any of the science behind this activity, but my kids had a great time.
* Make a necklace. FabulousLiving.com has some easy instructions and tips.
* Make a Peep sculpture. Check out David Ottogalli’s Website Peepsshow.com for inspiration.
* Eat them, of course. I like them fresh. A friend likes them stale. Guillermo, who is 5, likes them dipped in chocolate. Maya, my 2 year old, likes to take one bite and then throw the rest away. My husband, well, he is repulsed by them.

These are great ideas! LOL about peep jousting.
Who knew? These are fun ideas. Thanks. (The peep jousting was funny and disturbing, all at once!)
