Potty Training the Lazy Way
We decided to move to the area right when we were about to have our second daughter, Audrey. My oldest, Ashley, at the time was 2 1/2 years old and not yet potty trained. We thought it was best to hold off potty training Ashley until we moved as we were rocking her world with a new baby sister and moves to a new state and daycare.
And it was a piece of cake. One of the first Fridays I had off of work, we got up as usual and I told Ashley she was going to wear big girl underwear that day. And that was it. A few accidents, a few runs to the bathroom in Target, but other than that, it was really a piece of cake. She was old enough to understand and knew what she had to do.
And now Audrey is almost 27 months old. Old enough for some people to ask us about potty training. Old enough for me to realize she is really big to be changing.
But I just can't bring myself to dedicate a day to start working on it. So Audrey did that on her own.
Her bedtime is often challenging. She broke her arm right before turning two in January by climbing out of her crib. Since then, she is sleeping in a toddler bed and has complete freedom at night to roam around.
That freedom on Sunday night included her getting out of her room, getting the potty chair out of the laundry room from across the hall (which has been there since she discovered it hidden in her bathroom cabinets a few weeks ago), taking the potty chair into her room, striping completely naked, and using the potty.
I take no credit for this progression.
Since then, it is much of the same. We get home in the evenings, and she wants to go upstairs to "Poddy,Mommy."
I realize at some point we will have to do the big girl underwear shopping. I realize that I need to put in a little effort to get this potty training over and done with. But for now? I am completely happy she has figured it out on her own.

I hope potty training is easy for Maya, 22 months, as it was for Ashley and appears to be for Audrey. Guillermo was 3 years and a few months before he was finally potty trained and I still have to wipe his tail!
Amy that is hysterical! Especially coming from me a Twins Mom who did not have one twin voluntarily potty train in one day. ;)
I am so, so jealous. I'm having major frustration trying to potty train my 32-month-old. She was doing pretty well until she realized how much we wanted her to go on the potty. Now she's refusing. I decided this morning that I am emotionally incapable of dealing with the potty issues right now, so we are taking a break. I'm hoping and praying she'll come back to it on her own.
