We love School of Grace at Grace Lutheran Church on Six Forks near Millbrook. I'm not Lutheran or a member of the church, but I have had a really good experience with this school this year. It's a parent participatory school which means a parent/grandparent/etc. has to volunteer twice a month in the class. It's a small school with lots of loving guidance. The teachers are all VERY patient! I like that they share the philosophy that kids learn best through play and exploration. There'll plenty of time for academic pressure over the next 17+ years of their lives. My spirited 4-year-old has really thrived so far this year. www.schoolofgrace.com
My son goes to Soapstone United Methodist Preschool. It is a half day program and registration will begin in Jan/Feb so if you are interested, it fills up quick. It is off Norwood Road in N. Raleigh (off Leesville Road). www.soapstoneumc.org
They have 2-5 year old classes that range from 2-5 days a week -= depending on age. So far, my son loves it.
My other son went to Millbrook Baptist Preschool off Millbrook Road. http://www.millbrookbaptistchurch.org/MBKPreschool/tabid/110/Default.aspx
I loved that school as well but it was a longer drive and with gas prices so high last year, I moved him to save costs. The teachers and programs at both schools are simliar and so far, both are great.

I've heard good things about the Montessori School of Raleigh, but no personal experience there: http://www.msr.org
