Private Schools for Learning Disabilities
Are there any schools that specialize in children with learning disabilities? I am relocating from Dallas, TX where there are several to choose from, but I can find nothing in the triangle area. I have a 4 year old with severe speech delays/etc.. that is not public school material. Any ideas??

I know of a few schools that work with special needs kids. They don't necessarily sound like fits for your child, but staff at any of those schools might have some other contacts for you.
There's the Mariposa School in Cary for kids with autism: www.mariposaschool.org
Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood Development: www.lucydanielscenter.org
Frankie Lemmon School: www.frankielemmonschool.org
I also just learned about this one: www.thefletcheracademy.com. Don't know anything about it, but it might be worth a look.
Good luck! Welcome to the area!

The Hill Center in Durham is great for highly functioning kids with learning disabilities, perhaps a better option for her when she is a bit older.
You're too kind! Thanks so much for all of the links. They help tremendously.

Does it have to be a private school, i.e., have you had bad experiences with public school programs? By law your child is entitled to a free and appropriate education starting from age 3. I don't know which county you're moving to, but the Wake County Schools offer quite a few services and preschool classes for special needs children as young as 3, and I'm sure that the other counties in the area do also since it's a federal mandate. The Wake County Schools program I'm most familiar with is Project Enlightenment, a great school (although not only for children with learning disabilities), and here's a link to their website: http://www.projectenlightenment.wcpss.net/ or just call Wake County Schools or whatever county you'll be living in for info about all of their services.
Also, here's a link to the NC Department of Public Instruction Policies on children with special needs -- http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/docs/ec/policy/policies/2007policies.pdf . It's a bit daunting but will help you advocate for your child. Best of luck! (and welcome to NC)
