Proud and inspired by the Inauguration

The wet weather gave me a chance to play the old fashioned way with my kids today, sledding down the street, walking back up the hill, greeting neighbors and marveling at how tall children have grown. Taking the day off from work also gave me a chance to watch the Inauguration of our 44th president. (I'm glad to see that some classrooms of students are watching the proceedings on TV at school.

President Obama's words, "humbled...earned...risk-takers...doers...bold and swift" inspired me. What if each family had to greet every year with an inaugural speech, one that identifies outlooks on the year, sacrifices required to meet new goals, and the support, flexibility, and encouragement we would need to push forward in the year? Shouldn't we spend a few more minutes determining the right destination than figuring out if the mapquest directions give us the quick route?

The scenes of crowds on the Capitol Mall in Washington make me very proud! Wow.

Thanks for posting this. The silence on Triangle mom2mom on such an historic and memorable occasion was deafening.

What a great question. One of my declarations, goals, etc., would be that we would eat healthier, and I would make it a point to not take the quick and easy way out of offering crackers and goldfish for a snack but that my kids would have to meet me on this goal by eating vegetables without complaining. Ha. How is that for family goals.

I, too, was inspired the speech, and it made me wonder, what contribution could I make? My mother pointed out President Obama spoke of a parent's willingness to nurture a child. I think that is great, but I also sort of feel like that is just a given, of course that is my job, but I'm still searching for another way to contribute.
