Public verses Private schools
It's the perennial question, usually pondered around November and April: should I send my kids to public school or private school? Now, I realize some of you aren't from Durham, where within five minutes of any parent conversation, the topic turns to the schools. Still, what has worked for you? Personally, one of my children went through public schools, and I couldn't imagine why this wasn't the best possible option for anyone, but then my other child went through private schools, and ditto, the public schools were never a viable option for that one. So I can argue to the death both ways. Bottom line is, all kids are different, all schools are different, and you have to go with what you've got in your area. Are schools, public verses private, a hot topic where you live? What must-haves can you get from your private school that the public schools cant offer you? Is it worth the expense?

I hate generalizations about public and private schools! I think every family's situation is different, and parents are just trying to do the best for their kids, and it really bothers me when people run down others' choices. The idea that public schools are the only way that kids are going to learn the "real world" (private schools are turning out kids by the thousands every day that are completely unable to cope in this world-don't ya know?) or that public schools are all in the toilet, well, I think these generalizations are all a bit extreme. Personally, I think family life is the biggest impact on how a child turns out. There are advantages to either type of school along the way, but in my opinion -most of the time- school choice is not the make or break situation people make it out to be (with some obvious exceptions)
