Resolutions, No Thank You

May all your troubles last as long as your New Year's resolutions!" - Joey Adams

With that in mind, I didn't set any New Years resolutions. I needed to, I should have, I still might, but I won't.  I enter 2009 completely free.  I am only limited by my imagination, our finances, and the laws of the great state of North Carolina.

Without all the pressure of resolutions, I am really excited about 2009.  I always like thinking about the possibilities for a new year.  It feels like a blank slate and a world of endless opportunity.  Maybe this is the year we win the lottery.  Maybe this is the year I finally learn calligraphy.  Maybe this is the year our girls are old enough (and spill-proof enough) that we can finally buy new couches.  Maybe this is the year that I learn how to easily balance everything in life (just kidding, that will never happen).

While there are still many maybes a few things are set for 2009.  This is the year the first African-American president and the first female North Carolina governor take office.   This is the year Sarah starts kindergarten.  This is the year that we go to Disney World.  Thanks to some extended visits, this is the year the girls get more time with their grandparents.

Last year’s journey had many great pieces.  Last year’s journey also had more bumps and potholes than it should have.  For months, we have looked with happy anticipation to the start of 2009.  Now it is here.  I say bring it on.  I am ready, willing and able to great this year with a full smile.

Gigi is a TriangleMom2Mom featured blogger, appearing every Friday.

She's a mom of two daughters, ages 4 and 1½. Gigi’s path to a career in writing took the scenic route. She graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering and a husband-to-be. After a few years of work and lots of play in California, they returned to their roots in the South. They landed in North Carolina where she graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with an MBA. She worked in marketing for a large multinational company, but career priorities changed with the arrival of her girls. She stepped off the corporate track to start her own business. She now works full-time as a mom and part-time running her business and writing freelance. Gigi lives in Cary with her husband and two daughters balancing the havoc and harmony of everyday life.

As for the couch...do it now. Microfiber...comfortable, looks good and you can, I swear, clean EVERYTHING off it. I had one and used to use the green side of my scrub sponge and it always came out looking brand new!
