Rosemond Ranting and Ravings
So today John Rosemond starts out his column with a question from the mom of twins. He suggest that, like some teachers do, that she punish both when one misbehaves. This will lead to some self-policing among the boys and cut down on behavior problems, he says.
I'm not so sure I agree this week. This sounds like a good idea if both are equally mischievous and both respond to the exact same form of discipline. But aren't we supposed to tailor our punishments to the child. One kid might respond to a stern look. Another might need time out, grounding, loss of privileges.
The second item in his column is about a 14-year-old who wants to dress seductively. Her estranged mother gave her the clothes. Regardless of who gave them to her, it's pretty disturbing to see what's out there for girls in clothes - even for little girls my daughter's age. I remember a couple of years ago seeing a little outfit with a white jean skirt and a halter top with the phrase "hot mama" sized 12M.

Ok, I'm really starting to think that Rosemond's just a sadistic nutball. I cannot believe he'd recommend punishing two kids for the sins of one. What a way to foster sibling rivalry and resentment. Good job there, John.
Of course, I take almost everything he says with a grain of salt. Wasn't he just snarking last week about 3-year-olds who aren't potty trained?
I already thought this lol. I would never follow him or recommend him to anyone! When people ask me who to read, I tell them Dr. Sears!!

I think Rosemond's common sense solutions make parenting easier and kids better behaved and happier. As a result of following his advice, I have a very easy time with three great kids and we have lots of fun together with barely a behavior issue. Certainly no "high-needs" issues here that I see in nearly all my Dr Sears loving friends. Of course, I attribute much of this to limiting screen time (TV, video game, computer) to nearly nothing. They never had it so they don't miss it, and are great at keeping themselves busy! Rosemond is right on the mark there and usually is.
