Sales of Kid's Meals Down

I'm a sucker when it comes to numbers and statistics and I thought these were interesting enough to pass on.

According to the NPD Group, a leading market research group, sales of kid's meals with a toy are down as more are chowing down on items on the value menu.

Last year, among kids under 13, orders for kid's meals with a toy were down by 11 percent. Orders from kids menus were down by four percent. Combo meal sales were down 2 percent.

But orders from that age group from the 99-cent value menu were up 9 percent. Bonnie Riggs, an analyst at NPD, says that more people are ordering off the value menu for their kids' meals instead of getting the whole Happy Meal.

One reason is that fewer kids are eating out. There was a 5 percent decline in the number of parties with kids in the quarter ending in February.  But another reason is we're all cutting back.

Read more about the study by clicking here. The group also has an interesting study called "What's on the Minds of Moms and How They're Coping Today, which seems to track what some of us have been saying lately. We're looking for more deals and stocking up when we find one.
