Shakori Hills Festival

Here's something to do next weekend if you're up for a four-day-long music and dance festival.

The Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance runs from April 17 to 20 in Chatham County about 20 minutes from Chapel Hill. It's billed as a great weekend getaway for families. You can actually camp there all weekend if you want to. Kids 12 and under are free.

There's lots of activities for kids, including a Kid's Zone with a supervised section for children up to ages 9 or 10 with face-painting, bubbles, drawing and crafts. There's storytelling and a special music program for preschoolers.

New this year is "The Outpost," for middle-school aged kids. It includes tie-dying, hoop-making and workshops plus nature walks.

And there's always the Earth Day Celebration & Happiness Parade.
