Sunday, Monday, Me Day
You know how you always wish you had more time. A few more minutes? A spare hour? We had an extra hour last week when we switched back to Eastern Standard Time. (Alas, I didn't take full advantage of it at 2 a.m.) But that wasn't enough for me. I'm greedy. I need a whole 'nother day of the week.
It strikes me every Sunday evening, as I rush around doing laundry, getting at least enough groceries for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow, reminding the kids that they have to be in bed at the regular time—I need one more day.
Monday is the back to school day. We deal with the crankies. The mysterious stomach aches that only appear on Monday morning, but never on Saturday morning. The weekend hangover from the kids staying up way later than they think I know, playing Madden on the Playstation.
Tuesday, we start to recover. It’s the day to get everything done. Errands get run, projects get worked on, and practices get attended. We’re humming right along.
Wednesday. It’s an uphill climb with only the promise of Thursday to keep us going.
Thursday is the final push. If it doesn’t get done today, we know it won’t get done until far too late on Sunday evening.
Friday is “Fun” day. McDonald’s for breakfast on the way to school day. The kids count down the hours until they’re done with their week. I race the clock to see how much I can get done before they’re done for the week.
Saturday is “Let’s See How Many Ball Fields/Courts We Can Go To Today” Day. Can we go from northwest Cary to west Raleigh in 15 minutes? (Actually, no.) How many minutes of a tennis match played by one child in Sunset Ridge can we see before we have to pick up another child at the West Raleigh Exchange Club? (Answer: 12) How much gas do we use in an average weekend, driving between Raleigh and Cary? (Half a tank.)
Sunday is church day, followed very closely by “Let’s See How Many Ball Fields/Courts We Can Go To Today, Part 2” Day. Today, instead of cleansing my soul, I cleanse my clothes. And watch baseball. And do essential grocery shopping, etc.
So all the days of the week are taken up by errands, duties, carpooling and other stuff. I want to have a regular day that’s to be used like I want to use it. Not a special day, like Mother’s Day, but a regular, weekly event. This is MY day. But maybe you’d like one of those too.
Hmmm. What shall we call it?

Ha ha "Let’s See How Many Ball Fields/Courts We Can Go To Today." I remember two boys playing ball on different fields in different parts of town. Or just one kid playing in two band competitions ON THE SAME day in different parts of the state!
LOve the Let's See How Many Ball Fields/Courts We Can Go Today. Very funny post.
I would love a day for just me. And on my day, I wouldn't pick up any dishes, shoes, backbacks or wipe down any surfaces with windex. And the AMAZING thing would be that these chores wouldn't be waiting for me when my day was over.
