Tinker Bell vs. Cinderella
There's a story about Disney's big plans to roll out Tinker Bell big time. She could be as big as princesses, a Disney honcho says.
I was one of those moms who wanted nothing to do with princesses (emphasis on "was," potty training broke me down). My daughter doesn't need a man to make her happy, I thought, and that's pretty much the main point in many of the movies (so I've only seen the classic Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty).
I didn't have as much of a problem with Tinker Bell for some reason. She seemed spunky. And, a couple of years ago, there was a lot less Tink stuff that could possibly crowd my house. I've noticed a big increase in the last year at stores. She's everywhere.
And apparently, according to this story, she's basically going to take over with DVDs and more stuff.
So are you all about Disney princesses and Tinker Bell at your house? Can you wait for the new Tinker Bell DVDs? Or are princesses and Tink banished from your home?

Right off the bat, I'll admit I am a "Disney-a-holic". I love the whole concept of being a kid, enjoying your imagination, "PG" or PG-13 entertainment, etc. In today's world, kids aren't kids anymore....or at least not for long. They are expected to grow up too fast and dress more adult. A 8 - 13 year old is torn between wanting to play games and just be a kid and being cool and acting like they are 14 or 15 years old. Now I don't buy into the total commercialism of buying everything "Tinker" or "Hannah Montana", but what's wrong with some of it? I'd rather my child wear something/watch Disney rather MTV or some of the other shows I've seen that kids are watching. I'm not wording this just right, but it's up to the parent to monitor how much & what their child watches/wears. A little bit of fantasy/imagination goes a long way as long as it's a clean/fun fantasy. Let a child enjoy being a child for as long as they can before they do have to grow up.
I was never a princess kind of kid. And I thought that neither was my oldest daughter. That was until she turned 4. The entire focus of her entertainment life is currently on princesses. I just gave in and handed over my credit card to the folks at Walt Disney - it's seemed easier that way.
I love Disney and have my entire life. My daughter is "crazy" about anything Disney Princess and Disney in general.
