Tween phenomenon starting as early as age 6!
So, I came across this article today and sadly, it didn't surprise me. I've seen young girls out and about that are wearing makeup and heels and looking like mini "ladies of the night".
What is the point of this? Dressing up our little girls and allowing them to wear makeup and slutty clothes sets them up for the mental issues that this article talks about. I'm all about makeup and looking nice, but my girls are NOT wearing makeup until they are at least 14 or so.

Any thoughts?

Warning to you moms of teen girls who don't realize how girls dress to go to Halloween parties: think "ladies of the night". A few years ago when my daughter went to a party as a young teen, she was the only one in a creative, clever costume (as a green mother earth), the other girls were ALL in low cut, tight, short costumes. Even as a 14 yr. old, the idea that no one thinks to dress in anyway but slutty seems a bit odd. Odd that they dress for a costume party this way, when normal dress seems similar. go figure. Competitive dressing (above and beyond looking nice) seems to be an unfortunate female passion at any age...
I just read a great book...it's called "A Return to Modesty" by Wendy Shallit. I totally recommend it. She's also written "The Good Girl Revolution".
