Ugly Teeth at 15 Months
Every Tuesday, local experts field your questions about your health, your kid's health and related issues.
Today, Jessica Lee, an associate professor in the department of pediatric dentistry at UNC-Chapel Hill, fields this question.
The question: My 15-month-old daughter's front teeth are kind of grayish, discolored. The dentist says that she has enamel hypoplasia. Does this mean she's at risk for cavities? Do I need to do anything differently?
The answer: If the teeth are truly hypoplastic then they will be at greater risk for cavities. I would emphasize prevention. That means that mom must be very vigilant about keeping these teeth very clean. Thy will get cavities easier than normal healthy teeth. Mom might want to consider brushing them after every meal.
