Weekend Ideas 3/18
What a great weekend ahead. Alas, the Raleigh St. Patrick's Day parade is past, but there is still a lot to do.
-First, 'tis the season of consignment sales (ah, I love spring cleaning). Between KidsCycle, Kidzstuff, and 2nd Look, there are too many to list here. See the sidebar on Mom in Chapel Hill for links and information.
Beyond that, you can pretty much pick your town and find something amazingly fun to do:
Chapel Hill/Carrboro:
On Saturday the Carrboro Farmer's Market has "Recipes for Healthy Kids" at 9 am. There will be Dr. Seuss-inspired meals (Green Eggs & Ham!).
Also on Saturday the newly-moved Children's Store in Chapel Hill is having a Grand Re-Opening event that looks like fun! Maisy Mouse will be in attendance, as well as many other kids' activities.
And You've got the magical Paperhand Puppets doing a Family Fun Sunday show for Carrboro Parks & Rec.
And I have to throw out some ideas for sweet treats for you: Locopops is right next to the Children's Store and my son and I discovered that Maple View in downtown Carrboro is now open for the season.
In Durham:
The big event of the weekend is Marry Durham. This creative little event explains itself with the slogan: "You love Durham so much? Why don't you marry it?" Everything happens on Saturday. There is a Kidzone complete with Hip Hop dance classes.
Something a little different, try out the 25th Annual Durham H.O.G. Annual Bike Show & Chili Cook-off. It's a family-friendly event happening on Saturday as well!
Sweet treats in that neck of the woods? I am in love with then new Tutti Frutti.
In Raleigh:
No shortage of events for Raleigh and Cary folks either!
The Cary Towne Center is hosting the Active Alex Expo on Sunday. Over 30 local camps, sports, and organized activities will be in attendance to educate you on what opportunities exist. And, of course, live demonstrations and giveaways.
Also on Sunday the Sandbox Band is performing a benefit concert for the to-be-renovated Sassafras All-Children's Playground.
And, of course, Marbles Kids Museum and the NC Museum of History are always hosting kid-friendly and focused events. This weekend Marbles is opening its new Pet Vet Exhibit and at the Museum of History you can make a flying toy and see toys from the past.
Want to get out of town?
The NC Transportation Museum, located in Spencer, has its Spring Kick Off on Saturday. Magicians & trains, it's going to be a hit.
And, of course, at Mom in Chapel Hill we're always on the prowl for new and fun activities you can take advantage of any time.
Whew! Lots to do! Now get going!
