What do I do with the masses coming for the holidays? A couple little ones, preteens, teens and adults!

I will have my sister and brother-in-law coming from England, my brother and his two little girls (6 and 8) from Florida, my cousin, his wife and their two girls (11 and 15) and my family (11 and 15). The guests will descend a couple of days AFTER Christmas and stay through New Years. Here's the deal, the cousins live in NJ, a train ride from NYC. They have plenty to do in their neck of the woods. My sister is a train ride from London. So, I'm feeling rather, uh, embarrassed about the lack of great things to do in this area. Who has some terrific ideas for me? Being outdoors is great. Day trips are good. HELP.

Wilmington and the beach are good for a day trip - Durham: do the museum, shopping downtown or a Northgate (I think there is still a carousel there.) Roller skating and Ice skating are always popular and there a several venues around the Triangle. Or drop the teens at the mall and take the younger ones to the Marbles museum.

Bowling and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
Bowling, though corny to some, is a sure fire way to get young and old laughing and interacting.
I take anyone who visits to Krispy Kreme when I know the doughnuts are coming off the line Hot and Now. It's fun to watch and fun to eat.
A hike (or bike) around the grounds at the Art Museum or Umstead is a good way to shed some energy.
First Night downtown is potentially a good, chaotic time. The early celebration for the little kids and the midnight celebration for the older ones.

The Biltmore is a great trip to make, especially at this time of year.

Totally agree with cjlawrence and the krispy kreme posts! Our guests love to see them made and are very excited to see the hot sign!

Marbles is fun for the little ones and the bigger ones can watch an IMAX movie at the same time.

The zoo is a great day trip, as is denesec's post about the beach.

After christmas shopping at the outlets in Smithfield could be fun.

Carolina Hurricanes play at home 12-27 too!

So funny you mentioned Krispy Kreme. I was in there this week buying doughnuts for my daughter's class and got a BOGO for use Dec. 26-31. I thought that would be a fun thing to do one night after dinner.

Thanks.

I love the Krispy Kreme idea, too. My kids love that! 3 and 11.
There is a wonderful light show at Lake Myra about 30 minutes away that we went to and they liked that. And remember, city life is probably not what they are hoping to see, so enjoy the quiet woods and parks. Pullen park is great for the young ones, (train and paddle boats are cheap).
