What To Do This Weekend

Fall always is high season for family activities and this weekend is no exception.

First we've got all the Take A Child Outside Week activities. Highlights include the Falls Lake Fire Festival on Saturday where you can learn all about controlled burns. There will be lots of fire trucks and related equipment - always a hit with kids. Sample Durant Nature Park is Saturday morning at the North Raleigh park. Both events are free and don't require registration. Just show up.

And the other events ...

FRIDAY

Cary Players presents "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" with several shows starting tonight at the Herbert C. Young Community Center in Cary.

SATURDAY

The giant Durham Children's Clothing Exchange starts at 9 a.m. in Durham. A friend is a regular shopper here and tells me you should go early and be prepared if you want the best stuff.

Marbles Kids Museum's first birthday party is Saturday and includes games, crafts, face painting and more. Be sure to check out Marbles' new exhibit, The Magic School Bus, which I saw this week. It's all about weather and looks fun. WARNING: Many downtown Raleigh streets are closed this weekend because of the Ray Price Capital City Bike Fest, so just be prepared for some detours. Besides hundreds of motorcycles, the Bike Fest has some other family-friendly activities.

I featured the Annual Storytelling Festival in my Family Outing column this week. It runs from noon to 5 p.m. at Historic Oak View County Park and continues on Sunday at Marbles at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. with more storytelling.

SUNDAY

There are still a few slots left for Lizzie Lane's Colonial Tea at the Joel Lane Museum House in Raleigh.

And the Nasher Museum of Art in Durham hosts a family day with live performances, crafts and some free tickets to its El Greco to Velazquez exhibition.

The Carrboro Music Festival is most of the day Sunday and includes a performance from the Sandbox band at 2 p.m. on one of the festival's many many stages.

Lots more. So be sure to check out the TriangleMom2Mom calendar.
