What To Do This Weekend - Spooktacular Version

Most of us are probably focused on Halloween. If you don't have plans, be sure to check out our Halloween Guide and also my post yesterday about Halloween events at malls and museums.

Other highlights this weekend:

SATURDAY

Halloween Spooktacular with the N.C. Symphony is at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today. Musicians will be dressed up. So should you ... or at least your kids. The hour-long concert is perfect for little ones. And be sure to check out the Instrument Zoo an hour before the concert. The hands-on activity lets kids try out different instruments.

The Wake County Magnet School Fair is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Southeast Raleigh High School. ALynne provides some really helpful tips here if you plan on going.

Get rid of your old pumpkins at Whole Foods' Pumpkinpalooza in Raleigh from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There's a Jack O Lantern contest before the smashing begins.

Raleigh Dance Theatre's Storybook Tales is this weekend at the Fletcher Opera Theatre at the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts. Fans of the Fancy Nancy series should note that the series' illustrator will be on hand for autographs. One of the pieces is based on the popular children's series. Shows are at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Sunday performance is sold out.

Sandbox band will be at a fundraiser for the Casa Esperanza dual language elementary school. The Casa Esperanza Fall Festival, from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, is at Spring Forest Road Park in Raleigh. The school is working to raise money for playground equiupment. There will be food, games, inflatables, facepainting and more. Thanks to Jeff at Sandbox band and stahlmommyoftwo for letting me know about this event!

SUNDAY and MONDAY

Quail Ridge Books and Music in Raleigh has two big authors coming. Tomie dePaola of Strega Nona fame will be there Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Jan Brett of The Mitten and other popular books will be there at 5 p.m. on Monday.
