What To Do This Weekend - Sports Version

My daughter loves sports. So last weekend, we headed over to Reynolds Coliseum to see N.C. State's volleyball team take on Maryland.

It was free and fun and is one of the many opportunities in the Triangle to expose your kids to college sports other than football. I write about it in my Family Outing column this week and list some games this weekend (including N.C. State's Homecoming Parade Friday at 6 p.m.).

This season, you can watch local college teams compete in tennis, cross country, field hockey, volleyball and soccer. The games are usually free or very cheap. There are too many events to list here, but it's very easy to find schedules online. Just click on the name of the school for a link to Web sites with all the details.

Other family-friendly events to highlight this weekend:

Friday

The KidAround KidSale starts today at 4 p.m. at The Factory in Wake Forest and runs through Sunday.

Saturday

It's Heritage Day at Historic Oak View County Park in Raleigh from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We went last year and had a lot of fun at this old-fashioned county fair. No rides. Look for animal displays, antique farm equipment, live music and crafts.

Cary marks National Fire Prevention Week with Safety Day at Bond Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lots of educational and fun activities focused on fire prevention and safety.

And help Marbles mark the start of the Carolina Hurricanes' season with special hockey events through the day.

Sunday

Chapel Hill's annual Festifall is from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

And the Chapel Hill Museum will host Red Hot Chili with the Chapel Hill Fire Department, a fundraiser featuring all kinds of chili, a puppet show and more. It's from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Those are just the highlights. Go to the Mom2Mom calendar for more information about other events this weekend and the weeks to come.
