What Not To Eat When Pregnant
I saw this kind of funny story in the Washington Post this morning. It's written by a woman who is about six months pregnant and is worrying/frustrated about all the things she can't eat.
The first coherent words out of my mouth when the doctor told me I was pregnant (after the tears, etc.) was "OMG, I had a glass of wine two nights ago." He assured me that that was OK.
I remember being pregnant and craving everything I couldn't have - roast beef deli sandwich at the top of the list. When I finally gave birth, my husband rushed out to get me one at a gourmet grocer in Durham and was told that the best roast beef sandwich in the area (I kid you not) could be found at Arby's. He found a better one at A Southern Season.

LOL this is my 4th, and I STILL get paranoid about what to eat. And even more so, since before I found out, I was n percocet, had some diet pills (not consistently) and a few other meds for a really bad sinus infection!

You know, I always wondered about moms in Greece or Japan where so many of the no-nos are part of the daily diet. I'm guessing they do just fine there ... still not enough to convince me not to follow the recommendations.
I think the rest of the world does fine with their native diet. I think it's different in this country. We don't have good habits to begin with; un-healthy choices, lots of food additives, not enough variety and difficulty with moderation. (My personal opinion -- none of this is scientific.) I just think that one has to use common sense.
But as you mentioned, I did use caution throughout my pregnancy. I just figured: why take the chance? If anything happened to happen, I don't want to be torturing myself about that one hotdog that I ate during my 28th week or something like that.
(I enjoyed the Washington Post article. Mostly, I liked her shirt. I wish I dressed like that but my garb was shapeless & polyester, though still over-priced. Why is that with materity clothes?)
You should try and eat as you normally did before...granted it was reasonablly healthy..changing your diet radically can cause you to get sick when your pregnant
LearnandGrow, taking diet pills while pregnant can be a real danger to your fetus. There are many medications that are not recommended too. I had a friend who accidentely took a Cialis while pregnant. Might sound funny, like in a cheap commedy, but this ruined the quality of her breast milk. It's usually better to avoid any kind of pill in that period.
I honestly did not worry a great deal about what I ate. I don't normally drink alcohol a lot so that wasn't a big deal. Some things were just common sense to me (like alcohol) but other things like hotdogs, lunch meat, etc I just didn't worry about a great deal. If I ate it occasionally I don't think it mattered. I never printed off lists or anything like that lol Our 5th just turned 1, so far so good, none have had any issues from my eating during pregnancy. I think it's like most things in life - deserves common sense and moderation.

I think this is the crucial time women should leash their cravings for foods, wine or anything which may impact negatively the birth..Not just the restraints but following some Natural therapies, mild exercises would help in giving birth to a healthy offspring..
