The New Hope Valley Railway and N.C. Railroad Museum will be open and offer rides on its diesel and steam engines. It is open monthly from May to December with train rides, live music and other fun. Check out the schedule here. Departure times for the trains are at 11 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 4 p.m. Arrive at least 35 minutes before the departure time to make sure you get on board. Start: 12:00 pm

Explore the exhibition "New at the Nasher" and the theme of choices at this fun-filled Family Day at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. Families can explore the exhibition with a gallery hunt and make related hands-on projects. Live entertainment will include performances at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. by Paperhand Puppet Intervention. They will perform The Crawdad's Conundrum, the story of a fiesty young crayfish who is determined to have her voice be heard. Admission is free for this special family program. Start: 1:00 pm

Kids Together, the non-profit group supporting Kids Together Park in Cary, celebrates the anniversary of the park's opening with a birthday party at the park. Activities for the free event include a parade through the park led by KATAL the Kids Together dragon mascot, reading of the Kids Together story in the style of Dr. Seuss and making Roly Poly Ice Cream, along with other refreshments.
