Enjoy an old fashioned celebration of our nation's birth. The day begins with a parent-child fishing tournament, followed by a "Parade in the Park," a performance by Applause! Cary Youth Theatre and a host of games and competitions from donut eating to watermelon seed spitting.

Registration begins  at 7:30 a.m. for the fishing tournament. Parade decorations begin at 9 a.m.

The Joel Lane Museum House will sponsor its annual Independence Day open house. Lane was a founding father of North Carolina's capital city and an officer in the militia during the American Revolutionary War.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss continue to tour in support of their joint album. With a band led by T Bone Burnett, the pair will perform songs from the acclaimed Raising Sand (Rounder Records) as well as a few selections from each artist’s discography.

The video for “Please Read The Letter” the second single from the album -- was recently added to heavy rotation on CMT. Raising Sand has been certified RIAA Platinum and the single “Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)” garnered a Grammy award for best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

This exciting program offers families an opportunity to participate together in monthly science classes related to Museum research, including topics in ecology, paleontology, geology and biology.

This class focuses on birds. What an amazing creature a bird is. But what makes a bird a bird goes far beyond flight and song. What is a feather made of, and how does it really work? Why does one bird have a blue egg and another speckled? Why do they build so many different kinds of nests? These questions and many more will be answered in this class on basic bird biology.
