Styles Plus is a three-hour workshop at The ArtCenter in Carrboro that covers many styles of hip hop dance. Kids will learn styles like house, krump, popping, beak dance, freestyle and more. Calling all buccaneers ages 5 to 8! Meet a pirate and challenge him to a sword fight. Listen to tales of infamous seafarers, such as Blackbeard, Calico Jack and Anne Bonney, and make a seaworthy craft during the program Pirates Ahoy! at the N.C. Museum of History on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m.
Learn about how the State Capitol was built before machines were invented to do the heavy lifting. The family-friendly program kicks off the opening of "Pride and Ornament," an exhibit that explains the construction process and showcases the tools and workers.
Tour this restored historic home at Eno River State Park and hear about its inhabitants and pioneer life during the early 1800s. Stop by at any time during the tour hours.

Gourds have been used as musical instruments for centuries throughout the world. Using an assortment of guords, Botsford creates stirring rhythms blended with folklore, history, science and art.
Marbles Kids Museum and North Carolina Theatre present Live on Stage, a workshop for kids that includes singing, dancing and performing. At the end of the 40-minute workshop, the kids will present a group performance for parents to enjoy.
The workshop is taught by Ray Walker and Tito Hernandez, stars of Broadway shows and national tours.

Ackland Art Museum's "In and Around the Garden" exhibit and Kidzu Children's Museum's "Green Thumb" exhibit help children learn about shapes and patterns that exist in the plant world. A trip to Kidzu's studio follows where kids create their own patterned stepping stone.
