Ackland Art Museum's "In and Around the Garden" exhibit and Kidzu Children's Museum's "Green Thumb" exhibit help children learn about shapes and patterns that exist in the plant world. A trip to Kidzu's studio follows where kids create their own patterned stepping stone.

In this workshop, the Ackland's In and Around the Garden and Kidzu Children's Museum's "Green Thumb" exhibitions help children discover shapes and patterns that exist in the plant world and then design their own nature-inspired patterns. A trip to Kidzu's studio follows, where kids create their own patterned stepping stone. For children 4-8 years old.

The Paperhand Puppet Intervention performs its annual summer festival at the outdoor Forest Theatre on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. The Paperhand Puppet Intervention is behind the great puppets at many local festivals and performances, including Artsplosure and First Night in Raleigh. Tickets available only at the door.

The festival runs Aug. 15-17, Aug. 22-24, Aug. 29-31 and Sept. 5-7 at Forest Theatre. It's Sept. 12 and Sept. 13 at the N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh.

The local singer and songwriter for kids performs at the Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park. My three-year-old daughter loves her.

If it rains, the concert moves to the community center at 820 S. Main St., Fuquay-Varina.
