Family Day: Colonial North CarolinaSaturday, Sept.
Historic Oak View County Park hosts its annual Storytelling Festival, sponsored by Wake County Public Libraries. The event features storytellers from around the country. They'll perform at sites spread throughout the park.
Demonstrations and activities by prescribed fire professionals that emphasize the importance of controlled burns. Students with an interest in resource management and homeowners that live near areas where controlled burns are conducted, as well as the general public, are encouraged to attend. Part of Take A Child Outside Week. There will be activities for kids of all ages, including fire trucks and other equipment to check out.
Join a ranger to discover the critters living just beneath the water surface at one of Jordan Lake State Recreation Area's many ponds. Nets will gather debris from the pond floor. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. All nets and equipment provided. Wear old clothes and bug spray.

Join a ranger on an easy to moderate mile hike through the woods and around ponds looking under logs and leaves for wildlife signs. Meet at the Old Oak Trail head, area A at Ebenezer Recreation Area. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water and bug spray if needed.

A special late night tour of downtown Raleigh's most haunted places. The trolley departs from Mordecai Historic Park and takes an hour-long journey past the Governor's Mansion, the State Capitol, Heck-Andrew's House, Century Post Office and Oakwood Inn with a special stop at City Cemetery.
The trolley departs at 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

A spooky, candle-lit tour of the State Capitol along with children's activities, carriage rides, live music and more. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged for the tours as space is limited.
The Morrisville Rotary Club and town parks department present the Halloween Trail. The family-friendly not-so-scary trail is from 6 to 8 p.m. The guided haunted trail (for kids 10 and up) is from 8 to 10 p.m.
A hot dog supper along with games and other fun (but not scary) activities with plenty of adult supervision for homeless children and children in the community. Fairmont United Methodist Church is at 2501 Clark Ave., close to Cameron Village and N.C. State.
Hike along the Halloween Trail, a North Raleigh tradition, to meet costumed characters performing family-friendly nature based skits. At trail's end, huddle around the campfire for more entertainment, including arts, crafts and games.

Thanks to a grant from Durham Regional Hospital, Kidzu Children's Museum is free on Sundays through September 2009. Also on Sundays, with a grant from the Orange County Partnership for Children, the museum will offer free parenting information and dental health screenings.

Little Computer Bugs LLC is now enrolling for Imagine Tomorrow Computer Classes for Kids to be held at Planet Child in Cary, North Carolina. Classes at Planet Child begin the week of September 8, 2008.
Each Imagine Tomorrow Computer Class combines a fun learning adventure with sophisticated technology concepts in a creative way that teaches children ages 2-7 to use computers as a tool. Children work on their own computers using Imagine Tomorrow software that is custom built for each lesson and scaffolds to each child's academic and technical ability levels.
