Artsplosure 2008
Bring out the artist in your child at Artsplosure's 29th annual Spring Arts Festival. This year’s event will be held May 17 & 18 in and around Moore Square in downtown Raleigh. Like always, Artsplosure will feature an array of artists’ booths, as well as a selection of musical performances for all tastes and Kidsplosure. The weekend-long celebration is FREE to the public.
Kidsplosure provides activities and entertainment for children and families, all free of charge. In addition to the many arts and crafts available, the Kidsplosure Stage will provide live family-friendly entertainment. Marbles Kids Museum will also feature a “Kids Rock Artsplosure” component, including music, dance, and activities for young festival-goers.
Another great feature of Artsplosure is the Student Art Exhibition. Each year, a juried selection of artwork by students from Wake County High Schools and Middle Schools is on display at the festival. This festival feature is a great way to celebrate the talents of local young artists. The exhibition is held at Marbles Kids Museum.
In addition to the many activities for children and families, the festival will feature the Art Market, showcasing the talent of more than 170 juried visual artists and crafters from across the country. The main stage and city stage will be located in Moore Square and will feature performances by Jon Faddis Quartet, Otis Taylor, Janiva Magness, The Old Ceremony, Eric Lindell and more.
Other features of the event include Ed Moore and Sandy Feat and his spectacular sand sculpture. Also, don’t miss terrific art installations including steel Bubble Wands created by artist Lou Horton and “Polyphemus Plexippus”, a 20-foot long caterpillar puppet created by the Paperhand Puppet Intervention.
Each year, the Spring Arts Festival attracts 70,000 people over the course of the weekend. The event is presented by Artsplosure, a non-profit corporation that also produces First Night Raleigh.
