Deadline to Apply for Meredith Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Discovery Camps

June 1 is the application deadline for Meredith College’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math discovery camps (STEM for Girls in grades 6-8).

Two camps will be held this summer, led by faculty and students in Meredith’s School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, which includes the departments of biology, chemistry, physics and geoscience, and mathematics.

The first camp, STEM I, to be held June 16-20, 2008, will include activities and projects in a variety of areas in science and mathematics, while the second camp, STEM II, to be held June 23-27, 2008, will focus on computer science.

The camps run from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day and cost $350. Meredith College has received a $180,000 grant from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Student Science Enrichment Program to support outreach programs in the School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, including the STEM camps.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund has made scholarships available to qualified applicants. Registration for the camps is taking place now and applicants are encouraged to apply immediately. Visit www.meredith.edu/youth/registration.htm for an application.
