Chapel Hill's Homestead Aquatic Center opens today. A grand opening celebration will be scheduled later this year.

The center includes two pools - a larger lap pool and a warm-water recreation pool for families and non-competitive swimmers. The facility will be open 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., weekends.

During January, both the recreation and lap pools will be available for open swim and lap swim all day with a break for maintenance from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. It won't be available from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Jan. 15 and Jan. 22, because of a swim meet.
