Wanted to introduce pregnant women and new moms to this helpful program, if you haven't already heard of it. They launched the program in N.C. just this year, so moms who deliver in N.C. hospitals should receive free information and a DVD on the topic of coping with infant crying.
Period of Purple Crying
Quote:
The Period of PURPLE Crying® is the phrase used to describe the point in a baby’s life when they cry more than any other time. This period of increased crying is often described as colic, but there have been many misunderstandings about what “colic” really is.
The Period of PURPLE Crying is a new way to help parents understand this time in their baby’s life, which is a normal part of every infant’s development. It is confusing and concerning to be told your baby “has colic” because it sounds like it is an illness or a condition that is abnormal. When the baby is given colic medicine it reinforces the idea that there is something wrong with the baby when in fact the baby is going through a very normal developmental phase. That is why we prefer to refer to this time as the Period of PURPLE Crying. No, it is not because the baby turns purple when he/she cries but provides a meaningful and memorable way to describe what parents and their babies are going through.
The Period of PURPLE Crying begins at about 2 weeks of age and continues until about 3-4 months. There are other common characteristics of this phases, or period, which are better described by the acronym PURPLE. All babies go through this Period it is just that during this time some can cry a lot, some far less, but they all do go through it.
To see what the acronym stands for and additional information, go to http://www.purplecrying.info/index.php?loc=mb1r3p6

If you are familiar with or otherwise interested in the program, I'd welcome your thoughts and opinions, as well.

I had my first experience with a midwife and can't tell you how wonderful it is. And knowing that I don't have to drive all the way to Chapel Hill is a relief with all the visits for my pre-natal care.
I recommend Jessica Ramirez-Trower at Triangle OBGYN in Cary. She has four other midwives she works with and we'll be delivering at WakeMed Cary Hospital - which is gorgeous.

Hello!
I am a stay-at-home mother of an 18 month-old daughter looking to accept 1 or 2 children in my N Raleigh home for childcare. I have watched the same little guy for the past two years but due to a parent's job transfer, he is moving. Consequently, I have an opening and am available M-F for your child.
I have an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a Masters in Pastoral Counseling/Theology. I prioritize my daughter and the child/ren I care for having plenty of opportunities for books, arts & crafts, exercise, fresh air, stimulation, and of course, cuddling throughout the day. I am not big into the television so rest assured your family's time and money are well spent!
Finally, I am open to discussing any questions or concerns you have, as I know how important it is to feel safe and assured with decisions involving care for your child. Your peace of mind is of utmost importance to me.
Please contact me if you are interested in speaking more and/or meeting. I will begin watching a 4-month old in March but am happy to accept 1 (or 2 max) more children. References are available upon request.
Thank you, Heather

Hi. My name is April Sparks. I have been a stay home mom since my son was born, 7 years ago. With him in first grade this year, I find that I really miss having children around to play with and care for. I'm hoping to start a small, structured day care in my home. I'm interested in any wisdom other moms doing the same thing can offer and of course, any parents looking for childcare in the Apex area. I would like to do much more than babysit. Depending on the ages of children in my care, I would like to do art projects, sing songs, play games, but more than anything I would like to help them to grow and succeed physically, academically and socially.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I have experience as a babysitter, a preschool teacher, and Nanny and most recently a mom. If anyone has suggestions/comments for me I'd love to read them... If you are interested in childcare please feel free to call me at 919-455-3662.

Thanks!

A community health fair at Temple Beth Or in Raleigh (on Creedmoor Road) offers all kinds of helpful information for everyone. This year, plenty of information for the new and/or pregnant mom will be available. First Daze Mommy Care postpartum doula services will be there along with Freeman Lactation Services and Keystone Chiropractic. All provide excellent care to families in our community. Come out and meet all of us. Lots of samples and goodies will be on hand.
