I assume that I am the only mom of a high school senior out there, or the blogs here would have been filled with comments of the stress of the college application process. Only three weeks to go until all acceptances are mailed out. Will my sanity survive?? When I read Illyse's column on her Type A personality in getting online for her middleschoolers classes, I had to laugh: just wait until online college applications! I am a very hands-off parent. Whatever my child wants to do, apply to whatever college, whenever and however, is fine, as long as I don't have to serve as her personal secretarial assistant to make sure the deadlines are all met. Luckily she has the organization down to a science. HOWEVER, there is no way not to make the whole waiting game a nail-biting experience. It is like sending a resume into a black hole when one really, really needs and wants a job, sitting back and watching your child send her applications into the college application black hole. All the online statistics about acceptance rates of every college for every type of student -- gradepoint, ethnicity, geographical region, socioeconomic class, standardized test scores, etc. only make the application lottery more of a nightmare. One dean of college admissions sent ALL of the applicants' parents an email telling them to chill. THere is one month left, and he was afraid the parents of all his college's future students were going to be locked away in a looney bin. At least he understood. It was a very nice letter about the applicants: "I applaud their accomplishments and look with confidence to the future that they will shape, here or elsewhere.
We also applaud your role in their academic and personal development." Whew, my job there was recognized, so nothing left now to do but chill.

Hi,
My name is Misty. I currently live in Southern Indiana with my husband (and best friend) Jon, our soon to be 8 year old daughter, our son that will turn 5 on March 18, and our youngest son that turns 4 in June. All three of our children have multiple special needs. I am an Early Childhood Educator, I am the Director/Owner & Lead Teacher. I love working with children. I myself try to have general ed and special ed integrated in my class. I have learned more from the children I teach then they will ever learn from me.
My husband is transfering to the Cary/Durham area. My children are so excited about moving but as parents we are anxious. My husband, nor I, have ever been to NC. We have just 6 weeks to find a family friendly, safe, developmentally appropriate school that will continue to help my children grow. Early Intervention has done so much for my children. Each of my children has an IEP but how does that work when you transfer schools this close to the end of the school year? My sons both transitioned out of the early intervention program into Public Pre-K. It has worked wonders for my middle son as well as my youngest. Is it the same in NC? Can my youngest still attend school although due to his disability he is not Potty Trained? My husband and I are making the 11 hour drive to Cary Friday 3/12 and staying until 3/14 then making the 11 hour drive back sunday at 6 am. If anyone can point me in the right direction as far as schools, townhomes, apartments, or anything at all please feel free to contact me.
I have so much to do in 6 weeks. Like most special needs children, mine do not take kindly to changes in routine. CONSISTANCY IS KEY! We have no choice but to move, I just wish we knew where we were going :) !

Does everyone still know about infant stimulation activities. Because the "bible" How to Have a Smarter Baby was first published in the mid-80's and the commercialization of this research really took off in the 90's (i.e. black & white toys, mobiles, etc). I was wondering if any moms still follow the activities that were based on the original research?

I'm looking for easy day trips with the kids over Spring Break at places between here and Charlotte. (Salem Village and the NC Zoo are two ideas.) Any other ideas?

I am interested in taking our little ones to new parks with playground for their enjoyment and my freedom! Being cooped up in the house doesn't do any of us any good. I am rejoicing that tomorrow the temperature is going to hit slightly above 50 degrees! If you could help me out and tell me your favorite park to take your kids to that would be fabulous.
Thanks for reading. :)

I have been extremely unhappy with my childrens pediatrician and I am now looking for somewhere else to go. Can anyone recommend an office near Clayton, Smithfield, Knightdale or Wendell? Thank you so much.

Hi everyone! My name is Katie. I live in Cary with my wonderful husband, Keith, and 2 year old daughter, Kayla. We are a fun active family who enjoy getting out and meeting new people. I'd love to meet other moms in the area, grab a cup of coffee, set up a playdate, or just get away for some 'me' time.
I look forward to meeting moms and sharing our mommy stories.
Sincerely,
***(:Katie:)***
