The Period of P.U.R.P.L.E. Crying - Have you ever heard of it?

Wanted to introduce pregnant women and new moms to this helpful program, if you haven't already heard of it.  They launched the program in N.C. just this year, so moms who deliver in N.C. hospitals should receive free information and a DVD on the topic of coping with infant crying.

Period of Purple Crying

Quote:

The Period of PURPLE Crying® is the phrase used to describe the point in a baby’s life when they cry more than any other time. This period of increased crying is often described as colic, but there have been many misunderstandings about what “colic” really is.

The Period of PURPLE Crying is a new way to help parents understand this time in their baby’s life, which is a normal part of every infant’s development. It is confusing and concerning to be told your baby “has colic” because it sounds like it is an illness or a condition that is abnormal. When the baby is given colic medicine it reinforces the idea that there is something wrong with the baby when in fact the baby is going through a very normal developmental phase. That is why we prefer to refer to this time as the Period of PURPLE Crying. No, it is not because the baby turns purple when he/she cries but provides a meaningful and memorable way to describe what parents and their babies are going through.

The Period of PURPLE Crying begins at about 2 weeks of age and continues until about 3-4 months. There are other common characteristics of this phases, or period, which are better described by the acronym PURPLE. All babies go through this Period it is just that during this time some can cry a lot, some far less, but they all do go through it.

Raleigh & Cary Moms, do you know your Kids are Drinking This?

Moms in Raleigh and Cary, how much have you heard about this?
Article -- This is YOUR Drinking Water
Its pretty scary what Durham is doing to the water you and your kids have to drink. There are a few of us in Durham who are trying to fight this but we can't stop them, unless Moms in Raleigh and Cary start putting their foot down, and standing up for themselves and the health of their kids. What do you think about this? Is this the first you've heard about it? Have any of you talked to your town council representative, county commissioner, or mayor? What did they say to you? Have you seen any coverage at all in the media?

I'd like to hear from everyone on this!

Rex Hospital & OBs that deliver at Rex

I recently moved to Raleigh and am 13 weeks pregnant. I think I'm going to deliver at Rex, but I'm still trying to find a doctor. I know they have a list on their website, but I'd prefer personal references. Can anybody tell me who their dr. is, and if they are happy with them. Also, I'd like to know what everyone thinks of delivering at Rex Family Birth Center? Good/bad experiences? Thanks!

Maternity Clothes and Baby Items for Sale!

I have just placed on Craigslist postings to sell my maternity clothes, an infant car seat, a Graco swing, and a double breast pump.  My 3 children were born in November, March and June, so my clothes cover just about all seasons.  I worked full time during all pregnancies, so I have a full range of dresses, suit separates, as well as cute cotton shirts that could be casual or dressy.

I also have added a Graco swing that was only used for my last (2 years old now) and we hardly used it because he didn't like it!  It has 3 speeds, plus  classical music that can be played.

Also see a Graco infant car seat, also used only for my now 2 year old.  It is a beige with jungle scene, so it could go for a girl or a boy.  The base is included.

Check these out, and let me know if you are interested!  You can email me directly, and mention that you saw this on Triangle Mom2Mom.  (gcfrancis@bellsouth.net).

• Age 18 or older
• In your 2nd or 3rd trimester

Any Advice for "Boy Mom" Pregnant with Baby Girl?

Hi,
I have 2 sons and I just found out I am carrying a baby girl. I was really shocked because I expected another boy.

My husband is worried about the boys rough-housing around their baby sister. They are DEFINITELY not the rough type, compared to other boys their age. Still, they're not used to being around a newborn. Any advice?

what's happening
