So the Wake School Health Advisory Council, which is made up of parents, school officials, dietitians and others, wants schools to stop allowing homemade items and unhealthy food items such as lollipops, jelly beans and candy-coated popcorn from being served at class celebrations. Here's the story.
What do you think? Is this a wise recommendation or a case of being a killjoy?
Don't get me started about the quality of school lunches or the amount of bad food that kids get at school - I'm dealing with it at the daycare my daughter goes to.

We went to that new Noodles and Company place that just opened in Cameron Village. It was pretty good and there are lots of options for picky kids - noodles and butter, mac and cheese, chicken soup. Food isn't bad either, though I probably won't spend the $2 for shrimp next time as I only got 3.
There were locations in Durham and Chapel Hill too. Here's a Web site: http://www.noodles.com/

There have been so many requests from so many people about meal planning, cooking, picky eaters etc....Here's the deal. Anyone who wants my shopping list, e-mail me at cadydid@nc.rr.com and I'll e-mail it to you. I can post some tried and true healthy recipes that are great with kids.
Let's put the enjoyment back into cooking! Bring on the suggestions and favorite recipes, ladies! I'll start!
My kids LOVE this chicken and it's SO easy!
Buy bone in chicken thighs and/or legs
Place thawed chicken thighs/legs in a rectangle glass baking dish
Sprinkle with garlic powder, garlic salt and paprika.
Bake 350 degrees for 1 hour or until skin is lightly brown.
This is great with a box of couscous (which is REALLY quick to cook) and a steamed veggie.
Dinner is served!

I can't find the original post for the recipe with the chicken, beans, corn and salsa, so I can't remember who posted it (maybe triangle twins?) but we had it tonight and it was delic!! Everyone loved it. Tomorrow we're going to the fair, but I got all the stuff for Wed to make the chicken artichoke mushroom recipe. I'll post back after that! Thanks guys!

There's a story in The N&O today about Trudy Thornton, an avid coupon clipper and mom in Durham, who saves a lot of money in groceries every week. She runs the coupon club on savvydollar.org (I know some of you are big fans of that Web site). There also are some recipes and tips.
She is very organized about clipping coupons and also checking the sales, often paying little to nothing for staples. I usually save up to $3 or so each week with coupons - though I'm shopping more at Trader Joe's, Costco and the Farmer's Market lately where the usual coupons don't work. I do look at the sales when I plan my menu for the week. And we usually stick pretty closely to it.
Do you plan your meals for each night of the week? Do you have a system?
