First Presbyterian Church Child Development Center has openings in its 1-year-old and 4-year-old rooms. This is a four-star, full-time daycare with some awesome, caring teachers. My daughter has gone there since she was a baby. If you're looking, please give them a call at 821-1845.

There's a story in The N&O today about interest in babysitting co-ops where parents swap services with each other.
I know there are several neighborhoods in North Raleigh that have at least had these in the past ... Harrington Grove comes to mind. Have you participated in one before? What was your experience?

On my way home from work one day, I had a thought. What if I were to leave my newborn baby in my car, forgetting to drop him off at daycare? I couldn't possibly do that! Well, I had just read an article about mothers just like me who are busy working moms, taking care of kids, work, house and hubby, who would never have dreamed that they would have done this horrible act..but they did. I cant help but think that some or all of these "accidents" were not just accidents. But I give anyone the benefit of the doubt. There are so many ways to prevent this from happening. Put your pocketbook, keys to the office, your lunch, anything in the back seat that you HAVE to take into work. Also, wouldn't it be wonderful if daycare's called the parent or parents if a child did not show up? I know the child is not the responsibility of the daycare until they are there, but it could help save lives. I asked my daycare director if they did that. She said she did in certain cases, but that she would call me if my baby did not show up because of my fear. I love my kids more than life itself. I could not imagine my babies sitting in the backseat of a hot car, screaming for me to save them from the agonizing heat. I just hope that God had mercy on all the babies who had to suffer and die that way. There have been 433 deaths since 1998. Outside temperatures at 80 degrees F can result in 123 degress on the inside of a car...IN AN HOUR! I think that one death like this in 100 years is too much. Something should be done. Spread the word and lets start saving these precious angels!!!

Hi. I would like to put my daughter in a preschool in Raleigh next year. (She is currently in daycare.) I also need one that offers before and after school care since my husband and I both work full-time. Any recommendations? I live near North Hills mall and would prefer something that was within a reasonable distance - say 10 miles / maybe 15.
Thanks.

I'm on a committee looking to change the caterer at my daughter's daycare center. Does anybody know of any great caterers out there that provide lunch five days a week to smaller centers?
Thanks!
Sarah

Hi everyone,
I will be a new mama to the area as of summer 2009. My family (the husband, two baby girls, myself) will be relocating to the Durham/Chapel Hill area in order for my husband to begin law school.
I am currently a social worker (MSW) in the mental health field, but am hoping to create some arrangement in which I can be home, at least part-time, with my girls (my older daughter will be in school, youngest home full time) after the move. I would LOVE to have an arrangement in which I care for additional children in our new home, and am wondering how feasible this might be in the new area. I have oodles of child care experience, most significantly as a mama of two, but also some more official experience, not to mention my most recent work as a crisis intervention social worker with kids and families. I am, however, not licensed as a childcare provider, although I would def. be willing to look into this.
Just hoping to get some thoughts. Is there a market for such a service in the area? In Madison, I'm sure I could arrange some informal childcare arrangement to care for friend's children, but, being a newcomer, I wonder if this would be more difficult.
Thanks so much for any thoughts! As a GA native, I am really looking forward to this new journey, and hope to make some connections through this webspace.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Brooke

Hi ~
I've just found this site today and am so excited!
I'm due in January, and am going to need Part-Time Child Care, 2 days/week, starting around April.
I'm in East Raleigh (Hedingham), so something nearby would be best.
Any and All suggestions would be very appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Patti

I'm a Paramedic Certified by the American Heart Association to teach CPR, AED, Choking Management, and First Aid for infants, children and adults. The first 2 to 3 minutes in an emergency is the most critical time in a medical emergency, and the average person can learn lifesaving techniques in 3 to 4 hours. I believe this is a must for all parents. I can come to you, or set up a class. A minimum of 8 students is required.
I'm also certified to teach the following:
Pistol, Rifle, Home Defense (NAR).
Concealed/Carry Handgun Class (N.C. Department of Justice).
Unarmed Self-Defense (Martial Arts Experience).
Contact me for more information.
