Parenting

Parenting can be challenging. Sometimes those challenges are more than a parent can handle. The
following places can offer advice and classes that will help you with
all types of situations:

* Project Enlightenment
is an early childhood education and intervention program that serves
Wake County residents. The center offers parents of young children, ages
birth through kindergarten, classes and counseling.

* Family Support Network of North Carolina promotes and provides support for families with children who have special needs. The organization has local programs for each county.

* Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute
at UNC offers information on parent and family support; early care and
education; child health and development; early identification and
intervention; equity, access and inclusion; and early childhood policy.

* Durham Public Schools offers a Parenting Up Program, with occasional Parents Academy classes, parenting tips, and advice on how to get more involved with your children.

* The Family Advocacy Network,
offered by the Mental Health Association of Orange County offers
classes and one-on-one parent mentoring with volunteer parents who have
completed the program.

* Hillsborough Exchange Club offers a parent aide program, as well as education classes and programs to all Orange County residents.

* Noble Mother - offered out of Chapel Hill, classes include group coaching for new moms, coaching for couples and individual coaching.

*SAFEChild is located in Wake County and offers education programs geared to new parents, entire families, men, parents of older children.

* Welcome Baby offers parenting courses, a car seat safety program, dad's groups and other help and resources for parents of children ages 0 to 5 in Durham County.

* Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education
A local nonprofit that provides information about health, fitness,
nutrition, drug and alcohol abuse, and family life to preschoolers
through twelfth graders across North Carolina.

* Learn and Grow Together offers family enrichment classes, teacher training, birthday parties and more, including baby and toddler sign language classes through Wee Hands and The Happiest Baby Certified Educator Program classes to new and expecting parents.
