Performing Arts and Crafts

There are lots of opportunities to expose your kids to a little culture.

Local parks and recreation departments offer a host of special events.

But other groups and venues also provide regular entertainment for kids.

Holly Springs Cultural Center
A relatively new performance hall in Holly Springs with a great variety
of programming for kids and families, including teen band nights and
puppet shows.

North Carolina Museum of Art
The museum offers regular performances for kids.

North Carolina Symphony
The full-time, professional symphony offers an extensive program for kids, including Young People's Series, open rehearsals for students (reservations required), a youth concerto competition and other special events. The symphony also sponsors the Triangle Youth Philharmonic for young musicians.
The Meymandi Concert Hall at the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts is the symphony's home, though it plays at venues across the Triangle.

The semi-professional orchestra offers a family series and a youth concerto competition.

Raleigh Little Theatre
The Raleigh Little Theatre is a community theater in Raleigh. Many of its production are kid-friendly, including its annual production of Cinderella in December.

Raleigh Dance Theatre

Performances of the pre-professional program for dancers ages 12 to 18 are a less expensive way to introduce children to ballet. Fall performances are typically based on children's stories. Performances are in Raleigh.

The regional theater at Raleigh's Pullen Park includes several family-friendly performances, including the always popular "A Christmas Carol."

It's not open yet, but the Durham Performing Arts Center
