Let em' tan!
This pictures captures the epitome of childhood and summertime. We spent the whole summer outside and my kids were so tan that my pediatrician fussed at me! I never put sunscreen on my guys because they don't burn and I think they need some good old fashioned vitamin D and lots of it. I know, I know...this opinion goes against the entire industry of sunscreen and doctor's warnings.....how in the world did kids make it through childhood before sunscreen? That's my puzzlement.

I am not a fan of sunscreen unless you burn terribly, as it is chemicals that are absorbed through the skin. I think that if you tan naturally, avoid getting burned, and stay out of the sun from 11-3 or so, you'll be fine. A lot of parents completely overdo it (I saw one mother slathering sunscreen on her brown-haired, brown-eyed child at 5 pm!) and how did we make it? Just fine. Luckily, our doctor is OK with no sunscreen unless we are going to be at the beach or early in the summer.
It's funny b/c when I was growing up, we NEVER wore sunscreen, even at the beach. It just wasn't something my mom thought to do. If we were getting a little rosy, my mom just plopped a hat and t shirt on us. I kind of wonder if moms really read the ingredients on sunscreen to see what exactly their kids' skin is absorbing. All of those chemicals are absorbed by the body and have health consequences.
