State law allows parent involvement in schools

A 1993 N.C. state law requires employers to grant leave of up to four hours per year so parents and guardians can be involved in their kid's schools.

There are a few conditions. The employer and employee must agree on a time. The employer can require an employee to give them at least 48 hours of written notice. And the employer may require that their worker provides written verification from the school that the employee attended or was involved at the school during the time of the leave.

The law applies to parents of children in all kinds of school, including public schools, private church schools, preschools and day care centers.
