Farewell

A little over a year ago, I wrote a blog post about taking my children to the library and how exhausting and overwhelming it was, with one running one way and the other another way. For awhile I stopped going if both of my kids were with me, but the other day I went, me being a year wiser and them being a year older, and we had a great time. I love how far we have come, me, Guillermo and Maya, m…

Out of Town

I am going to Chicago this weekend with my husband, but not my kids. I’m going to watch the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field and while I’m there, I’m going to meet up with a friend from high school whom I haven’t seen in years. I’m not going to do laundry or wash dishes or vacuum. I’m going to put on going-out clothes and watch another fri…

For the Peeps

In honor of Easter the Easter Bunny, here is a list of fun things to do with leftover Peeps (as if):

So Long to the Glider

We said goodbye to our rocking chair this week. It was the yellow glider rocking chair and ottoman we bought before our 5-year-old son was born, the one my husband warned was too expensive, but he says that about many things. Several times a day for several weeks after Guillermo was born, I sat in that chair, struggling to nurse him until I finally sought the help of a lactation consultant.

When I Grow Up

What do you want to do when you grow up? Are you already doing it or are you still searching? I’m still searching, but I come up with ideas all of the time.

The New Dora

Have you seen the new Dora the Explorer, the tween-Dora? What do you think? My two-year-old daughter is crazy about the current Dora, and I sort of like her, too. She is spunky, curious and independent, as well as a problem solver and a good friend, all of the things I want my daughter to be.

My Resolution on Legos

Whereas Lego bricks were created in 1949 by a Danish carpenter and have since been named one of the "Products of the Century” by Fortune magazine and " Toy of the Century” by the British Association of Toy Retailers, and whereas Legos are a member of the National Toy Hall of Fame; and

Less to say about my weight loss around my kids

For as long as I can remember, my thighs were the problem. They were too big. These days, it's my stomach that has fallen out of shape, and sometimes over my jeans. And if I can take care of both those areas, I’ll move onto getting my arms back into form.

Swim Ideas Anyone?

I ask your advice a lot here, ladies, but that is what this site is at least partially for, right? And, you’ve given me some wonderful guidance already, and hopefully it is of use to others, so I hope you don’t mind if I ask for another tip. This time, I’m fishing for some suggestions on how to get my 5-year-old son ready to swim. Guillermo is comfortable in the water with me, and …

The Allowance Question

Do you give your kids allowance? Did you get it as a child? My 5-year-old son has discovered money, and he likes what it can buy: Legos, Playmobil warriors, action figures, more Legos. He doesn’t have much money, and, of course, he doesn’t understand the value of it. For instance, he’s much happier to show off six nickels than he is to show off three quarters.
