Take a Child Outside Week runs Sept. 24 through Sept. 30 this year.
Launched by the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences a couple of years ago, the week aims to encourage adults to take kids outside instead of keeping them cooped up in the house all day. To me, it's a sad state of affairs when we need a whole week to encourage what should be a normal part of every childhood.
I'm a big fan of pre-cooked chicken sausage. They are generally a little healthier than hot dogs and a lot more versatile. I'll serve them on the side with some spaghetti or saute some peppers and onions for a sandwich. And when it's the apple variety, I'll pair them with some pancakes for breakfast at dinner.

Well ... I'm about to sign off for awhile. If all goes as planned, I'll be welcoming a new baby sometime on Thursday. (And it's scheduled, so there's really a plan).

I was just perusing the Web site for North Carolina's Amtrak, www.bytrain.org, and learned that there are several rides coming up that kids will love.
