Raleigh's September nature programs

Raleigh's come out with its list of nature programs for the month of September. Most require pre-registration four days before the program. So plan now. And if you're planning on heading out to the annual Halloween Trail at Durant Nature Park this October, be sure to register now. Like last year, you can't just show up to attend this very popular event.   Little Nature Hikers

Passing school buses

It's been less than a week since a 6-year-old girl from Green Year-Round Elementary School was hit by a car after getting off her school bus in Raleigh. Roasted okra

Being from the North, okra was sort of a foreign concept to me when I moved down here. I eaten it in soups and stews, but never on its own. Last summer, I walked through the Moore Square Farmers Market with a friend and asked what she planned to do with all the okra she'd just purchased. "Roast it," she said.

Sale at Rex's lactation station

Rex's Lactation Station is having a sale on nursing bras, books and a few other things. I was over there this week to get my breast pump all set up and noticed they were cutting back on their inventory. Apparently they will be moving to smaller digs down the hall, which is too bad. I remember going there four years ago and being impressed by the amount of merchandise they had.
