Artspace, the downtown Raleigh nonprofit arts center with a collection of artist studios, will culminate its summer kids programs with a Family Fun Day this Saturday. It's an artsy, carnival-like event that's open to the public.

Kidocio ... science for preschoolers

A mother-daughter team is opening up a campus for their science programs for preschoolers in Apex. Leigh Ann Jenson (daughter) and Laurel Creazzo (mom) are co-founders of Kidocio, which has been offering science programs for kids ages 3 to 5 in day cares and preschools for the last three years. They'll open the space Sept. 1 at 918 Windy Rd., which is off of U.S. 64 in the same complex as Bradley'…

I've been to Comedy Worx on Peace Street in downtown Raleigh a number of times with my daughter for Kazoom Puppet Theatre, a puppet show best for ages 2 to 7 with a mix of storytelling, humor and music.

Girl dies after getting off school bus

Horrible news out of Raleigh. A six-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car in the North Hills area shortly after she stepped off the school bus Monday afternoon. She attended Green Year Round Elementary School.

Major Recall: Little Tikes Workshop Sets

Little Tikes and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have recalled about 1.6 million Little Tikes workshop sets and trucks because they could pose a choking hazard. He's made a full recovery.

All entries must be baked at home and prizes are awarded on overall appearence, taste, impression and creativity. The contest is open to everyone and contestants can enter as many cakes and cookies as they wish.

Eunice Shriver and a 'special mom'

The death of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who founded the Special Olympics, triggered Vickie Dehamer to write about her mom and what it was like growing up. As you can imagine, the kids on the playground weren't comple…

Tips for Consigning

As most of us are well aware, it's consignment sale season. I'm planning on consigning some of my maternity clothes from my first pregnancy this season (and maybe some of my baby clothes if I end up having a boy) and wondered how I could do it right.
