Gatorbabe

I just wanted to recognize Gatorbabe, who wrote her third blog post today about Barbie, her daughter and, well ... you can read the rest. Plus the cute picture of her Gatorbabies. Thanks Gatorbabe! Reader blogs and forum posts will be featured on the home page under the "being a mom" and "becoming a mom" sections where appropriate. So start writing everybody! (I'm also glad for any opportunity …

Hi!

You've discovered a new Web site dedicated to moms in the Triangle. TriangleMom2Mom.com is developed by The News & Observer. We offer daily information about food, outdoors activities, events and other topics. And we have a new offering from one of our local featured mom bloggers every day.

Out!

I had no idea how many events and activities there were for kids in the area until I started writing the Family Outing column for The News & Observer's What's Up section almost a year ago. What's great about many of them is that they're free or almost free, generally fun and a better way to pass the time than one more trip to Target or Costco - personally speaking.

Theater for kids

Rags to Riches Theatre for Young Audiences has been around for 15 years. Run by a husband-and-wife team in Durham, the traveling group has performed all over the Triangle, often drawing big audiences at the Carrboro ArtsCenter, local libraries and other spots. Expect lots of opportunities for audience participation. And they're used to squirmy preschoolers.

Little League Hits Big Time

This made me laugh so hard tears came to my eyes. Imagine a bunch of fans, mascots, the Goodyear blimp, a Jumbotron and live play-by-play at your kid's Little League game. Apparently Improv Everywhere, a New York-based group, made it happen last month in California.

Bond Park Boathouse

The only time I've been in a boat with my daughter was on my dad's small boat on Lake Ontario. I remember both of us hanging on for dear life. I'm not crazy about water. (Sorry Dad). But I see kids having all kinds of fun on boats and I don't want to pass on my fear to my daughter. So maybe we'll check out Bond Park or any one of the other number of lakes this summer.

Farmers Markets

There's a great list of all the farmers markets in the Triangle with hours, Web sites and locations in today's News & Observer, as part of food writer Andrea Weigl's story about young farmers.

LittleLand Fans

If you were planning on heading over to Java Divine in Holly Springs tomorrow for Stacy Clearman's LittleLand's regular Thursday performance, change your plans. Stacy tells me that tomorrow's show is canceled because the Holly Springs coffee shop is under new ownership and some construction won't be finished. The normally scheduled show will return at 10 a.m., April 17.

Eat!

Every Wednesday, a rotating group of local mom bloggers will write about what they're eating and what their kids are eating. Sarah Lindenfeld Hall will write on the second Wednesday of the month. I'm not super creative in the kitchen. Most days, I do as little as it takes to get some food on the table without using lots of processed foods. My husband is a big help with cooking and prepping.

Ask!

Every Tuesday, local experts will field your questions about your kids' health, your health, discipline, development, nutrition and other topics. Please see our expert panel and send your questions to Sarah Lindenfeld Hall. You can remain anonymous. And help out local moms by offering your suggestions in the comments section.
